Definition Of Human

Before fertilisation with the other half of the complement of chromosomes, the egg or sperm cell has nothing to do with life only part of its potential and it is only when the other 23 chromosomes combine is life then generated with 46 chromosomes. Fundamental to human life are genes and DNA, but two halves combine to create more than the one.

0.5 + 0.5 + ? > 1

The 23 chromosomes from each of the female egg or male sperm cell combine to form the full complement of 46, but more than just a summation occurs. Where does personality and intelligence come from since it cannot be from each original half? It cannot even be described as a half-human since it is nothing to do with human life, only the potential when combined with the other half. Male or female. The complete entity is necessary to develop into a human having personality and intelligence.

  • at what point, then, can a foetus truly be defined as a human being? what traits/characteristic really define a human being?

  • It's a philosophical-type situation. Who knows? This is purely for speculation and 'deeper' consideration, because I certainly don't, but your question is a valid one.
